Please join us for the
41st Annual
Chino Invitational
Band Review & Field Show Tournament

The 41st Annual Chino Invitational Band Review and Field Show Tournament takes place on Saturday, November 5, 2011 from 8:00 am until 10:30 pm.

On October 30, 1971, the first Chino Invitational Band Review was held, featuring 14 bands in parade competition. Over the past 41 years the event has evolved into one of the largest, longest running, and most prestigious marching band events in the state. The event now features three separate competitions – AM Field Tournament, afternoon Band Review, PM Field Tournament.

The Chino Invitational consistently attracts Southern California’s top marching bands. The high caliber of competing bands has also attracted the Music Committee of the Pasadena Tournament of Roses, who has attended the event since 1977 to evaluate the bands for consideration for the prestigious Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade. A separate area is specifically designated for Tournament of Roses Music Committee viewing at the end of the parade route, allowing bands to customize their performances specifically to the Music Committee.

The AM and PM Field tournaments take place at the John Monger Stadium on the Chino High School campus, 5472 Park Place, Chino, CA  91710. General admission is $10, admission for students with ID and seniors is $8, and is good for the entire day. Due to time constraints, the field tournaments are limited to a total of 26 competing bands.

The afternoon band review (parade) takes place on Riverside Drive, from Benson Avenue west t 10th Street, then north to Park Place, then east to the Chino High School student parking lot. The competition area is located on Riverside Drive and 11th Street. The Tournament of Roses Area is located on Park Place, starting at 10th Street. Admission to the band review is free.

The schedule for the event will be posted at a later date

The Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association (SCSBOA) will provide the adjudicators and competition criteria used at the event. Awards for the field tournaments will go to the top groups in the categories of band, auxiliary, and percussion. Awards for the band review will go to the top groups in the categories of band, drill team, auxiliary, and drum major.

Entry fees for the event are $200 for the field tournament and $200 for the band review (plus $25 for drill team). Invitation packets have already been mailed, but may also be downloaded from this site or www.worldofpagentry.com.

The event is hosted by the award-winning Chino High School 77TH Cavalry Band and Pageantry, under the direction of Mr. Doug Bowden. The 77TH Cavalry will lead off the band review and cap off the PM field tournament. The event is staffed by the equally talented Chino High School Music Boosters, led by two of the event’s original organizers, Dennis P. Rodda and Harold R. Nelms.

The 41st Annual Chino Invitational is specially dedicated to the thousands of alumni participants and spectators over its 41 year history.

We hope to see you November 5, 2011!
